Vesa Honkonen is a Professor in two universities and a worldwide respected lecturer. Vesa Honkonen began his international career in architecture in 1984, receiving a diploma at the Architecture Biennale in Venice. Nowadays, he works in his studios in Helsinki, Stockholm and Beijing.
Career of Vesa Honkonen led him through all the best Finnish architectural firms as a project manager. As a result, he was in New York, where he worked with architect Steven Holl. Vesa Honkonen was the lead architect responsible for the design and Kiasma - the famous Museum of Modern Art in the center of Helsinki. In 1998, when the Kiasma had been built, he opened his own studio in Helsinki.
Vesa Honkonen is the author of many architectural projects all around the world. His works range from design of urban buildings to designing of private residences and public buildings, from design of chairs to design of lighting of art objects. Also, Vesa Honkonen is an expert in the field of lighting - both in urban scale and in small decorations.
As a professor, Vesa Honkonen has a long academic career. For several years he has been teaching at the Aalto University, School of Art and Design, today, he is a professor at Konstfack, University College of Art, Design and Crafts in Stockholm and Shandong University of Art & Design in China. In 2012, he became a lecturer in Guangdong University of Technology in China. Vesa Honkonen lectured and gave advice in schools in many cities, including New York, Las Vegas, Hyderabad, Beijing, Ningbo, Chengdu, Wuhan, Nanchang, Frankfurt, Brussels, Warsaw, Oslo, Bergen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Värnamo, Malmö, Luleå, Umeå, Oulu, Kuopio, Tampere, Turku, Raisio, Helsinki.
Currently, Vesa Honkonen continues to teach, he is engaged in designing of a street in Helsinki, he is completing the project of the Lutheran Church in Chengdu Schezuan and he is working on new design projects of Lumi Polar Company.
