4. Natural Wooden Houses - 100%!

Timber / logs, which have not been treated with any chemicals, environmentally friendly adhesives, insulation based on wool and other, only natural materials and warm.

Natural Glue and Glued Seams

We are positioning their homes as environmentally friendly, because we use expensive natural glue (non-toxic, formaldehyde-free) because it does not emit toxic gases and is not harmful.

IMPORTANT!

Until 2007, for bonding of load-bearing timber structures, only toxic glues class D4, containing formaldehyde, have been used (according to the WHO - it carcinogens that cause cancer). Moreover, these adhesives have poor resistance to weathering. The situation has improved dramatically with the advent, in 2007, of the natural glue because:

• The strength of glued wooden structures increased 5 times!
• Delaminating test results (the results of tests on adhesion strength) is zero, so the possibility of disclosure of adhesive joints and seams is excluded.
• Being a "porous" glue, it gives an opportunity to wood to "breathe", i.e. penetrating into wooden structure, the adhesive does not affect its breathability.
• Natural glue does not contain any harmful substances, solvents or fibers, such as asbestos, and other substances, which contain phenols and formaldehydes.

FOR REFERENCE:

Our log is glued not from thin boards, but from lamellas (thick boards cut through the core) and glued with cores outward both sides of the log. That prevents cracks from appearing both inside and outside the house, as any tree cracks always go to the core.

Generally, manufacturers just apply glue on the wood, crush its surface and thus close the wood pores. Therefore the seams quality fails to stand the test of time.

Our log houses built with lamellas, connected with eco glue are more solid, durable and wholesome than ones built from thin boards, connected with synthetical glues (wooden houses built with boards have a lot of harmful glued seams).

5. Perfect Aesthetics of Log Walls

Wave-Shape Profile

The traditional profile of the log leaves some gaps between the beam crowns, which absorb rain and moisture; it can adversely affect quality and appearance of the walls. To resolve this problem, we have designed Wave-Shape Profile which covers the seams and creates thin chamfer between the crowns of the log.

Due to Wave-Shape profile design, no additional interior finish is needed - the walls are beautiful by itself, because they look very neat, seamless, and monolithic.

“Silk” Log

We process timber surface to such a degree of smoothness that of the walls of our houses are often called "silk". Due to introduction of the high-precision processing line, we grind timber further under pressure. In addition, we bring surface of the walls to the ideal state after assembly of the house - our experts on the ground are doing it.

Revolutionary Non-Shrinkage Technologies (Houses do not Shrink)

As it is known, log houses shrink. Our houses built under traditional technology shrink as well due to high quality of the timber, glued laminated log and advanced technologies - yet not as much, just approximately 1-3% within a year (depending on region, conditions and project specifics). That is why we adjust shrink elements the first year after construction.

Yet after the implementation of truly revolutionary inventions into production - non-shrinking technologies, we have gained the opportunity to build wooden houses that do not shrink and have the same technical and aesthetic capabilities as houses made from any other building materials.

Non-shrinkage technologies function due to the production of special forms of glued laminated log and the use of arctic species of spruce and pine, grown in the Finnish territories beyond the Arctic Circle, in it. The natural characteristics of these species include denser structure, meaning that they are harder and stronger, less prone to cracking.

The basic principle of non-shrink solutions know-how is that non-standard lamels, made from arctic species of wood are glued into the center of the log, which, due peculiar sawing of fibers, special drying technic, an ingenious method of location and cross-gluing, create stiffening ribs that prevent shrinkage of the building.

The Benefits of Non-Shrink Lumi Polar Houses

• They are warmer (low thermal conductivity - 0.13 W/mK, high heat capacity - 2.10 kJ/kg, heat transfer coefficient U - 0.40 W/m2K);
• They are more solid (the static strength of structures is greater in every aspect). Specifications of non-shrinking log: weight - 32.22 kg/m, volume - 0.0716 m3/m, humidity (%) - 14 ± 2%;
• They have higher fire and seismic resistance (due to the high density of arctic species of wood and the impermeability of structures). Higher inter-room and inter-floor soundproofing;
• They do not require post-construction maintenance - no tightening of shrinkage control elements. Lumber walls are perfectly dense right away, interior decoration is possible for accomplishing already during the process of construction.

There is no need in leaving shrinkage gaps or in covering them with platbands, cover strips and other overlays (all the excess spoil the appearance). No moldings are needed at the junction of the log walls to the frame walls - the joining lines are smooth and dense.

Built-in furniture adjacent to the wall (in the kitchen, in bathrooms, etc.) is installed tightly, looks aesthetically pleasing thanks to the absence of need for additional bars, extra fasteners for shrinkage.

The need for cutting special window openings and doorway is eliminated. They are also installed without gaps and shrinkage elements.

Limitless Architectural Delights

It became possible to design wood houses of any shape and complexity, to create large open spaces without unnecessary beams, supports, columns.

Combinations with any natural materials are also available (non-shrinking log is securely and tightly connected to stone, concrete, metal, glass, etc.)

Gables of the house are now possible to be erected from log (under traditional shrinkage technology, they are only possible to be erected from frame).

The Cost of Shrink and Non-Shrink Houses

Houses built under the non-shrinkage technologies are slightly more expensive than those of shrinkage, everything depends on project specificity and complexity. For those whom the budget does not allow we still can build a traditional house from shrink glued laminated log.

”Modern Corner” vanguard angles

We challenged the urban culture of house building, when created our significant invention as a right angle, so called ”Modern Corner”, which allowed us to build wooden houses from laminated veneer log within the city.

Thanks to this modern and extremely reliable solution, corners of our houses do not have protruding rims as long chopped log ends (inherent in traditional wooden houses), but they have right angels like any other building. We apply those angles in all the houses in the avant-garde style - they give our buildings dynamism and clarity of forms.

Soft Angle Oval Lumber

We give oval shape to the corners, designated for inside of the house, at the factory with the help of their further processing by a special machine in order to avoid them looking ragged because of unintentional grazing, to be ‘broken’, and to avoid their finalization at the construction site (what takes a lot of time, while the result may be poor). It is particularly important in cases where the house is decorated with columns or pillars.

One Line Connections

Our houses are distinguished by the unique One Line technical solution, as a result of which the log at the corners is joined not in an overlap, but in one line! Due to one line, our houses made of glued laminated log have very modern and stylish appearance.

Hobafix Invisible Fixings

We use reliable Swiss-made Hobafix hidden fasteners, which allow to firmly fasten the ends of the beams to the walls and load-bearing ceilings without cutting one into the other. As a result - neat tight joints that do not require platbands and cover strips.

10. Joints, Corners and Nodes without Covering Planks

Due to the high-quality wood and high-precision cuts, we construct houses without cover strips, overlays, and all kinds of covering planks, which, as a rule, cover up flaws, uneven corners and joints that affect not only aesthetics, but also quality (gaps let the wind go through, heating costs are higher).
