The best is for children!
When people say these words, they mean a different things. Good toys, beautiful clothes, exciting games and high-quality education... For LUMI POLAR, the “best” the right conditions for life, studying and relaxing. Therefore, today we decided to talk about the construction of children's educational buildings in Finland. Of course, from natural Finnish laminated glued timber. After all, it is simple the best!
Why is timber ideal for child care facilities?
Schools and kindergartens are the subject for special environmental and safety requirements. After all, children spend a lot of time there. A healthy environment is a guarantee of a child health. Wooden buildings fully meet this task:
- They are fireproof. Finnish glued laminated timber is assigned the level of fire resistance R6: its fire resistance is 4 times higher than that of metal. When it burns, the timber does not flare up, but only slowly charms, without emitting toxic substances. The timbet will resist fire at least for 45 minutes!
- It is cool in buildings made of a timber in the summer and warm in the winter that provides the comfort of staying.
- The tree breathes, filters and disinfects the air. It is extremely important for children to breathe clean and fresh air. The antibacterial properties of wood have a positive effect on health: children are much less sick, even with an outbreak of viral diseases.
- Humidity in a wooden building is the most beneficial to health - 35-55%. This is the best indicator for preventing the development of allergies and asthma.
- Due to this humidity in the high-quality wooden house mold and fungi don’t appear. By the way, too dry air is also dangerous - dust mites actively reproduce with minimum humidity.
- Scientists have proven: staying in a wooden building normalizes the work of the cardiovascular system and significantly reduces the level of stress.
Building our houses, we never use synthetic materials - adhesives, impregnations, antiseptics, etc. - high quality of the timber doesn't need it. Therefore, we can say that our Finnish buildings, both “children's” and “adults”, are 200% safe!
Architecture of public buildings
Another indisputable advantage of our company is the ability to make the most interesting architectural solutions real. For example, to provide a panoramic glazing that improves the natural insolation of the of rooms in the project.
The basis of the Finnish approach is shadow design. We locate the buildings on the plot in such a way that as much light and sun as possible falls inside. This is the key to the well-being of children. And it is much more pleasant to study in light and spacious classrooms!
Low-rise buildings are much more comfortable than tall “boxes”. The timber is perfect for minimalistic design solutions - its texture is so beautiful that it doesn’t require additional finishing, and the ability to create non-standard lines of facades has a positive effect on the geometric thinking of children.
Bright colors for children's spaces are in the past: it is eco-aesthetics that form a good taste in the younger generation. Children grow, accents change, but natural beauty and harmony remain!
Finnish experience
School Pudasjärvi Log Campus, a project designed by the architectural bureau Lukkaroinen, is the largest wooden school (of laminated glued timber) in the world. 800 children study there, and the total area of the building is 9 800 m2. In the fenced area there are several one- and two-storey buildings connected with closed passages – there are large classes, a gym, a dining room, a dressing room, and much more. Pudasjärvi Log Campus allows to have excursions for people from around the world.
Another example is a kindergarten of 1000 m2 built of glued laminated timber. In the design of its facades, yellow and white colors are used, and the red gable roof adds to the buildings spectacularity. Kids rush here in the morning with great pleasure – it is obvious as they have here large game rooms, cozy bedrooms, and a spacious kitchen-dining room. Everything is almost the same as at home, and there is no time to be bored!
The LUMI POLAR team is sure: wood is an ideal material for public buildings. And if you know that the timber is the most durable material, it becomes clear for you why today it is chosen by Finns.
